Who We Are:

Girl Scouts of the USA is the world’s preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls—all girls—where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.

Founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, Girl Scouts' membership has grown from 18 members in Savannah, Georgia, to 3.6 million members throughout the United States, including U.S. territories, and in more than 90 countries through USA Girl Scouts Overseas.

The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be
     honest and fair,
     friendly and helpful,
     considerate and caring,
     courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
     respect myself and others,
     respect authority,
     use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Muslim Girl Scouts

"Muslim youngsters of Muslim Girl Scouts build character and skills for success in life. Girls develop qualities such as strong Islamic values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. They learn to be loyal, honest, considerate, caring, unselfish, courageous, cooperative, responsible, courteous, and respectful Muslim leaders following the steps of our Great role-model Sayyida Fatima AlZahraa."

By comparison the Girl Scouts of the USA website states “Girls develop strong values, leadership skills, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth that will serve them all their lives.” These mission statements share many of the same elements, but Muslim scouts add the add Islamic values and models to their scout programs.

Religious Awards

"The Motivating Force in Girl Scouting is A Spiritual One"

Besides providing a spiritual component, religious awards programs also help to promote many of the same values that are integral to Girl Scouting and they help to develop positive assets in girls and young women. In fact, GSUSA commissioned a study, Girl Scouts : Who We Are, What We Think, and the results found that girls who were memebers of both Girl Scouting and a religious institution made better moral decisions than girls who were members of just one organization.

The Girl Scouts of the United States of America (G.S.U.S.A.) works with many religious groups to bring such awards to girls from different spiritual backgrounds. The Religious Recognition Awards offered by the Islamic Committee on Girl Scouting is approved by both the G.S.U.S.A. and by W.A.G.G.S. (World Association of Girl Guides and Scouts). Muslim girls all over the world, including the U.S.A., are working on these awards and are, Alhamdolillah, benefiting from the Islamic scouting experience.
