 Beryl:

One of the most important gem minerals, Beryl is colorless in pure form. It is the many different impurities that give beryl its variety of coloration. Some examples of colored beryl are: Emerald (green), Aquamarine (blue), Helidor (yellow), Morganite (pink), Goshenite (colorless), Red Beryl, and Gold Beryl.

 

Beryl’s lore says this gemstone is useful for energy, love, healing, psychic awareness, and protection.

 

 Bloodstone:

This deep-green and white chalcedony with red spots is one of the birthstones for the month of March. It was highly treasures in ancient times, when it was often called “Heliotrope”, probably because the appearance of the gem reminded the ancients of the Sun setting in the ocean.

Powdered bloodstone was used as a remedy against tumors and to stop severe bleeding in the Middle Ages. Alchemists used it to cure blood poisons and to draw poison from venomous snakes. Still today, powdered bloodstone is used in India as medicine and aphrodisiac.

In Christian mythology, it is said that the first bloodstone was created when drops of the blood of Jesus stained some Jasper by the base of the cross. For that reason, it has been highly used in Christian art, artifacts, jewelry and amulets.

Other lore says that bloodstone opens every door for its owner, being a stone of  “make it happen”, therefore it is also associated with self-confidence, wealth, prosperity, and all business affairs.

As a meditation stone, it represents the connection between the red of the blood of animals among the green of the plant world. It is also very grounding.

Known as “The Stone Of The Warrior”, provides courage, physical vitality, and the understanding of the importance of each hard-won victory.

Other properties attributed to Bloodstone are warding off evil-eys, drive away night-demons, and guard against deception.

 

 Calcite:

The name calcite comes from the Greek word “Calx”, meaning “lime”.  It naturally occurs in a variety of different colors, and can be fluorescent, phosphorescent, thermo luminescent, and sometimes even phosphorescent (continues to glow after light is removed).

Clear calcite has long been used as prisms, and only occasionally in jewelry, since it is too fragile to be worn.

Inlaid calcite was used on the throne in the Tomb of Tutankhamen.

When you hold a square calcite over a line it will appear to double the line. This ability will help double the power of all spell work.

It can be used as an energy amplifier, and to help remember information from astral travels and dreams. Energies directed at this gem will separate and return with double intensity. As prisms, it produces a spectrum of energy to activate all chakras.

It is centering and grounding, and can also be used for purification and to calm one’s fears.

 

Variations:

 

Green: Help to heal bone and ligament trauma, sport injury, arthritis, and tendonitis. Promotes mental balance and communication between the intellect and emotions.

 

Gold: Deepens intellect, memory, wisdom, psychic abilities, astral projection, channeling and higher consciousness.

 

White (Iceland Spar): Fosters spirituality, awareness, feelings of love and connectedness to the entire universe. Gives the feeling of protectiveness and worthiness. When worn or placed on the altar, it doubles the power of the ritual.

 

Gray: Encourages calmness and serenity. Neutralizes the impact of karmic influence, allows clear visions and aids to remain neutral in arguments.

 

Brown or Gold: Insight into the truth, opens mind to inner wisdom.

 

Blue: Balances emotions and removes blocked emotions. Opens, heals, and unblock chakras.

 

Orange: Happiness and safety, reduces inappropriate skepticism.

 

Red: Drains negativity from the body. Opens the heart chakra. Protection.

 

Black: Predict and prevent problems.

 

Violet: Peace and harmony with the universe.

 

 Carnelian:

This red to orange variety of Chalcedony, was a sacred stone in Egypt and Tibet, and a birthstone for the month of August and the sign of Leo.

It is connected to both the elements of Earth and Fire. As Earth, it is grounding and helps one to feel in control of his own life and comfortable with the environment he finds himself. Also gives a feeling of being settled and secure.

As Fire, it is stimulating to the mind, and helps us make the most out of life. It induces creativity and verbal skill. It helps us to take action and increases personal power.

Carnelian also has a clearing effect, helping us get rid of negativity, and replace it with positive energy, stopping feelings such as jealousy, apathy, fear and rage.

It activates the lower chakras and stimulates the reproductive organs, been therefore used as a fertility symbol.

As a healing stone, it has been used to purify the blood and liver, and increase physical energy.

 

Cat’s Eye:

A variety of Chrysoberyl, and a cousin to the Alexandrite, it has a distinct band of light across its face, which sweeps from side to side.

Its colors range from honey brown to apple green, mostly bright colors.

It is a stone said to direct fortune to the bearer, and give them a serene sense of happiness. It enhances awareness and intuition, gives insight and helps to attain balance during life changes.

 

Celestite (Celestine):

Of sky blue color, it is unique in the mineral kingdom. Just by gazing into it, you feel like you are floating in the sky among Angels, thus being a great to stone when working with Angels.

It brings inner peace and tranquility, and emits energy of compassion.

Celestine is used to heal eyesight troubles, soothe nerves, combat toxins and aid in digestion.

It balances the yin and yang energies and promotes a creative focus, also enhancing creativity and aiding when focus is needed for schoolwork or other learning endeavor.

Also used to help a person adjust to constant life changes, promoting growth. It works on both the third eye and throat chakras, being useful for meditation and psychic development, as well as communication and verbal skills.

 

 Charoite:

This stone was found in Russia in 1978, near the Charo river (from which it gets its name). This is the only known location for this rare stone, and it is thought to have been mined out by now.

The colors on it range from a bright lavender to dark purple with white, gray and black veining.

Its healing properties include an aid for headaches, liver problems and balancing the blood pressure.

It soothes “hot” emotions, helping to “let go”, and enhances self-esteem, the ability to love, and to bring unconditional love into your life. 

It works on the 3rd eye chakra, and accelerates spiritual growth, bringing the bearer a sense of peace and harmony with the divine flow of life and destiny. It provides spiritual transformation, while helping us understand karmic lessons.

This gem is also used to cleanse one’s aura, and to help them walk their dharma (the personal path of service in this lifetime).

 

Chrysanthemum Stone:

This unusual stone is found in riverbeds in China. It can be found in red to brown and black colors, “abloom” with flower-shaped bursts of color, and for that reason, it is also called “Flower Stone”.

It is attuned with the signs of Taurus and Aquarius, and can be used to treat disorders of the skin, eyes, and skeletal system.

Chrysanthemum stone also helps to eliminate feelings of jealousy and resentment and, being the stone of harmony, it brings innocence and joy and can facilitate the aging process.

 

 Chrysocolla:

Often confused with turquoise, this blue-to-green copper bearing stone can be found wherever copper deposits occur.

It is attuned to the Zodiac signs of Virgo and Gemini.

Chrysocolla can be used for the healing of arthritis, diabetes, ulcers, and to aid the digestive system.

It carries a feminine energy and it is also very powerful at helping during childbirth and to regulate menstrual periods.

It is the stone of honesty, and can make one comfortable speaking the truth without guilt, as it also opens communications. It makes the person more sensitive and better able to express themselves.

It also invokes the power of affirmation, and aids into putting one’s heart into words, creating words of power and sacred songs.

This is a gemstone helpful when trying to overcome stress, bringing serenity and tolerance, and letting go of past fears. It opens a person up for intimacy, as it attracts and nurtures feelings of unconditional love.

 Chrysophrase:

The name of this green-apple colored stone comes from the Greek “crysos prason”, meaning “gold leek”. It is the most valuable of the chalcedony group.

Historically, the Greek and Roman peoples praised this stone, and made popular cameos out of it. The Egyptians had it next to Lapis Lazuli in value, and made beads for jewelry out of chrysophrase.

As the legend goes, it is said Alexander the Great always wore a piece of this stone in his girdle. One day, a snake bit the girdle off and the stone got lost in the river. From that day forward, he never won another battle.

In the 1800’s, it was widely believed crysophrase could help thieves to become invisible. It was said holding a piece of this crystal in a person’s mouth would grant them the power of invisibility.

As a healing stone, it helps the heart, eyes and gout, enhances fertility, and it was used in the old times to guard against sexual transmitted diseases. It works well with other stones, helping to enhance other gem’s healing properties.

In business, this is the stone for positions of leadership and management. It helps the person to work on issues without distractions, and with a calm state of mind to examine objectively the problem and finding realistic solutions.  Citrine:

This variety of quartz is yellow in color, but can also carry shades of brown and red. It is the official birthstone of November, and the sun sign of Virgo.

The ancients believed citrine could be used to protect someone against poisonous snakes and evil thoughts.

As a healing stone, citrine can help to heal the heart, kidney, digestive tract, liver and muscles.

It carries the energy of the Sun, and its positive vibrations, uplifting and energizing properties, promote motivation and increases physical activity, improving the overall health of the bearer. It acts on the solar plexus chakra and clarifies the difference between the needs of our ego and our soul (higher Will), and fills our life with joy.

Diamond:

The hardest, and most perfect gemstone on Earth, diamonds are said to be the purest expression of Earth energy, and symbolizes the perfection of our own higher selves. It helps us align ourselves to the Universe, the All, and creates a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms.

Diamonds can amplify energy, and it is powerful in increasing the energy of other stones, as well as one’s own energy. For that reason, we should be careful not to wear diamonds in days we are feeling blue, because it can amplify negative feelings as well as positive.

It heals the eyes, brain, heart, and cleanse all the chakras. It also releases sexual blockages and improves sexual life.

 

 Diopside:

Diopside is an important rock-forming mineral in several metamorphic and basic to ultra igneous rocks, also found in meteorites.

It stimulates the intellect, being the perfect stone to aid in analytical and mathematical pursuits, helping us store information and see things objectively.

 

 

 Dioptase:

This crystal is emerald-green in color, and works on opening the heart chakra.  It is energizing for both spiritual and physical bodies, helping us attune with the higher self, embrace totality of self and find peace.

Dumortierite:

Blue dumortierite (also called “blue denim stone” is actually an aluminum borate silicate, often found in Brazil, the US, and Canada.

It is associated with the sun sign of Leo.

Dumortierite is called the “stone of patience”, and can reduce excitability and eliminate stubbornness. Provides grounding in love, while clearing away unsettled areas in relationships.

It works on the throat chakra, being useful to develop clairaudience and clearing the throat chakra of blockages. It aids on verbalization of spiritual ideas.

This gem also enhances organization abilities, self discipline and orderliness. It reduces difficulties of scattered mind and disorganization.
